Radway Control Systems Ltd have recently completed the upgrade of a Tension Reel (Recoiler) dc drive for a steel manufacturer.
The original drive was a GEC Gemdrive Micro 1 communicating with the line control Gem80 PLC via a Starnet serial link.
The new drive is an ABB DCS800 having a power rating of 780kW.
The application is a coiler/winder in which the motor speed and torque are accurately controlled as the coil diameter builds up.
